Please describe your efforts towards participation and leadership. Did you take care to clean well? Mention if you were attentive at the beginning of class every day.
I think that one of my big efforts towards leadership is helping the beginners learn how to throw and how to foot. There is only one teacher and she cannot possibly give every beginner in the class a lot of one-on-one instruction because there are simply not enough minutes in a class period. In ceramics we all need to help each other out and I definately remember how much I struggled when I was a "noob." So, lately I have been staying a little bit into my own lunch period in order to glaze my projects because I've been spending my class time helping some of the beginners center and pull up, and then after making the project, teaching them how to foot it. I ALWAYS clean my own space, except for that one crazy day when I totally forgot. This means I always wash my splash ring, wipe off the wheel, put my extra clay back in the mixer, put away my tools, empty my bucket, put away my sponges, turn off my wheel, etc. My other job is to clean the glaze room and lately people have been doing a pretty good job picking up after themselves. All I normally have to do is wipe off the counters and cabinets, put away wax brushes, and pick up the cups that people leave around when they add water to the glaze. It's usually a pretty quick clean so sometimes I don't use the whole designated cleaning time to clean. I usually stay a few minutes after the bell rings if I'm not done. Also, I'm attentive at the beginning of class. I listen to the announcements and I even watch the beginner demos. I don't walk around in the back, set up my station, and ignore the announcements just because I'm in advanced.
How often do you use the pass? Are you on task every day and all period? How social are you versus how much work do you do? How closely do you meet assignment deadlines?
I basically never use the pass. One time I had to use it in the very beginning of the year to go and get my jumpsuit out of my car. Most of the time I have time to go to the restroom before class if needed without being late, even though I was late once or twice coming back from the restroom because I had to walk a long way between classes. I am on task every day and all period. I don't like wasting time and I love making projects so I don't really ever get off task or dilly-dally during class. I feel like I always have things on my to-do list whether it be to throw or glaze and if I'm ahead, I throw extra projects. I talk to the people around me when I throw a little bit (not too much or I get distracted and my project goes off center), and I talk to people when I glaze. It's a fun class and I don't think that it needs to be silent to get work done. I still make sure that I'm doing something productive and getting something done. I need to work on meeting assignment deadlines more. I kind of got screwed up since at the beginning of the year I was super rusty and could not for the life of me remember how to throw. Everything I made kept breaking and this set me back but this coming quarter will definately be better since I won't have that problem :)
